Ah, a familiar voice from the high desert (assuming he still lives in Pahrump). Years ago when I worked in Death Valley - there's a hotel resort there called Furnace Creek Inn & Ranch Resort) - I would actually listen in to his show during my time as a Night Auditor working the graveyard shift. The interesting point is that Pahrump is roughly 60 miles from where I was situated but I have a mountain range or two blocking my "view" to Pahrump, but he didn't directly broadcast the AM signal from there (his home studio sent stuff to affiliates by satellite).
The really funny part was considering my location I was tuning into a radio station in Seattle which was like 1,000 miles away - the signal from the station was likely bouncing/skipping through the mountain ranges all the way down to me where I was (lowest point in the western hemisphere is Badwater which was like 20 miles from my actual work spot which was 192 feet below sea level).
It was a remarkably strong signal too and I was using a fairly crappy AM/FM radio. Thought about buying one of those ultra sensitive CCrane AM "Super-radios" when I was out there but decided based on their pricing (like $200+ at that time back in the late 1990s). Amazingly, I found one of those exact CCrane radios in a thrift store last year for $5 - had a busted On/Off switch which I fixed in like 5 mins after getting it home. Excellent radio, outstanding audio quality, and well worth the $5 for sure.
But it'll be cool to "tune in" to Art once more and see how things are going in his world of weird and strange things.
