Here's a new one. I had the SDS100 and the SDS200 sitting side by side tonight. I noticed that the SDS100 was picking up traffic on an analog channel but the SDS200 wasn't...it was an "easy to receive" system.....my local law enforcement. I opened up the squelch and still no audio. Checked my settings.....only thing the audio timeout was to infinite....don't think that should've even been a factor. And while I was at it set it to 100 MS just for the heck of it. Still no audio til I powered down then powered back up. It's like it was scanning but went to sleep or something. After the power cycle all seems to be okay.

I had something similar happen on my SDS100. It seemed to be 'stuck' in one specific system. Not receiving anything, just sitting there. After I power cycled the scanner (turned oof, then back on), it was back to normal. My best guess is that this may be caused by something with the memory card, If you read through the forums, you'll run across all sorts of weird behavior that, in theory, shouldnot have anything to so with the card, yet the problem goes away if a new card is installed, or the existing card is pulled, gets a full format, then is treated to a full makeover (clear user data to initialize the card, then reload Favorites lists). Just in case, that's what I did, and the problem has not recurred. (This was last year, so it's run without issues for quite some time.)

And it actually did have that symptom earlier come to think of it...the stuck on a system/channel. Just wanting to make sure it wasn't a setting I was over-looking.

I’ve always suspected my SDS200 of doing something similar. In fact, I have two of them and they both gave me cause to suspect. I would go to the WX scan and see if it was hearing the NOAA broadcasts and it did… just figured it needed to be reset. If it’s a common issue, Uniden should have picked up on it by now. I’ve been told a number of these scanners have been returned under warrenty and continue to be returned for the same issue, but to date, haven’t heard anything from Uniden about what they found, if anything. I’ve gotten more from the forums from people who are knowledgeable about the scanner. They mostly say it’s an SD card issue. The corrective measure, or workaround, is to simply get another good quality SD card… which is good advice, as a spare is always nice to have anyway. I have swapped out my SD card more than once, replacing when I suspect a card fault, and again when I suspect the new card has a fault. I’m not going broke buying SD cards, the issue hasn’t happened more than once a year for me, so until I hear Uniden has made improvements to correct whatever is causing the SD card to corrupt, I continue to maintain the status quo.

Oh I've tried calling Uniden....on the noise mitigation issue. When you get transferred to the scanner department, with my experience,at least.....I talked to some kid name Josh or Justin. Told him what all was going on.....then heard a bunch of noise like shuffling of papers....realized I was getting nowhere and then asked to speak to his supervisor. He said he was unable to transfer me and said he'd have the supervisor call me. Apparently he must've been hit by a bus or had some other tragic accident.....so far no call. I really think,as you say,we're better off finding answers on our own. The SDS's are fantastic products....most scanner owners dream come true....and I know nothing is perfect.....but with more effort on their part the scanners could be VERY good.
