Just something I noticed while in Richmond last weekend monitoring the regional system, specifically City traffic on the 8k race that my stepdaughter was running.

The decoded audio on that system is, to me, considerably better than what I routinely get from the local Charlottesville/Albemarle system. Anybody notice that? Any ideas? Far as I know they both are simulcast systems. I've just never thought the system here sounds all that great.

I actually think the Charlottesville system sounds a LOT better than the Richmond system. I'm using a Pro-96 with the latest firmware. Also, the Fairfax County system (552B), which I know is a simulcast system, sounds better than both the Charlottesville system and the Richmond system, by far.

With simulcast it can depend greatly on the layout of the system, the care put into maintenance and alignment, and your particular location.

The Richmond TRS's audio has always seemed more "muddy" sounding than other P25 voice systems I've listened to.

Thanks N_Jay, I have suspected that since they turned it on. I used to work in paging and optimizing the simulcasting could be a challenge. It was most interesting to note the "grass is grenner" syndrome at work too. I think Richmond sounds great, even while driving around.

I guess I should get off my a$$ and crank up a service monitor and actually look at what I'm hearing here huh?
