It's even more sad to think that more the likely the driver won't have to do any time for the death. At leased if past accidents like this are followed. All because they are "kids".

Just something a traffic unit with the police department here told me... they are no longer called accidents because it is not an accident. If there is a wreck then somebody is at fault. Therefor here they are now called a wreck :)

One teenager was killed and several others injured in a street racing crash that sent one car flying into oncoming traffic.

All of the people involved were Montbello High School students between the ages of 14 and 18 years old, according to police. The victim who died was a female in the car that went into oncoming traffic.

The crash happened when two cars racing northbound on Airport Blvd. collided near 13th Ave around 3 p.m. on Friday. One of the cars went into the southbound lanes, flipping five to six times before landing in the median, according to police.

As Sky 9 hovered above the scene the car which flipped into oncoming traffic could be seen with severe damage resting on its roof. The other car involved did not appear to have significant damage.

Officials said the cars were driving up to 80 mph at the time of the crash.

At least six people were injured in the crash. In addition to the one person who died, another person is in serious condition. The other four suffered less serious injuries. The victims were taken to University of Colorado Hospital at Fitzsimons and The Medical Center of Aurora.

Northbound Airport Blvd is closed between 13th Avenue and Colfax Avenue.

What a horrible, horrible accident. I can't imagine what Montbello High will be going through, along with the families.

The accident happened on the sidewalk of the Aurora Public Schools facilities at 13th and Airport, which is exactly where Station 5 was located, so I wonder if they rolled the engine or just walked. There was something in the paper today where the lt. said that he did not think anything of the loud noises, which were the crash, and simply thought it was banging from the Aurora Public schools loding docs right next to the station.

Sorry to say this .... no wait...I'm not. It needs to be said;

I hope they put both of these cars on the front lawn of Montbello H.S. until the end of the school year. This wasn't a "tragic accident" no matter how you look at it. The only thing I'm thankful for is that they didn't cartwheel into a crowd of teenagers watching the race.

As far as street racing and teenagers go, Law Enforcement, and by virture of that, Dispatch Centers, need to step up and actually take measures when these kids are reported to them, PRIOR to the next incident.

And we all know there will be more.

When I heard the 9PM news tonight, it was said that the police suspect there may have been two more vehicles involved in the race. This story will probably get alot worse then it is now.

An Accident to most fire/ems is something that is not expected by statistics. Our Department calls them Motor Vehicle Crashes.. not accidents.

I am really getting sick of all of this illegal aliens crap. I don't know why the gov't is having such a hard time with this, I mean, obviously they cannot understand the word "illegal" in this case, and I am not sure why. Speeding is illegal and punishments are given, so why isn't this?

Anyway, today at my school, we had an assembly that is put on every year by the school called "remember..." and it is a time to get together and recognise the 4,000+ teens that loose their lives in MVA's each year, and we have people come in and tell stories, for example, today one high school kid from castle rock came in and told us a story about how he was sending a text message while driving, and that distracted him from the road, which caused him to veer off and hit and kill a bicyclist. Sad stuff like this really does impact the students and I think that there should be something like this for everyone to see. We also had to sign a contract, same as last year, where we recieve a t-shirt, key chain, and a "livestrong" type braclet with remember... written on them, and the contrct reminds us always to take that 2 seconds and buckle our seat belts and to think about safey ALWAYS. It is really a great thing to have.

What was the cop doing?

Let me get this straight:
The ILLEGAL had contact with Law Enforcement half an hour before he and three others killed the 15 year old while driving drunk at 80 MPH?

Why was he not detained then? or given a field sobriety...no wait....what was I thinking? I'm sorry, do you bother seeing if underage drinkers are too drunk to drive before putting them back behind the wheel?

Are we to beleive he consumed all that alcohol in the time frame between being pulled over and crashing?

Maybe I'm missing something, Help me out here
