AURORA - Police were involved in a high speed chase Wednesday night after spotting what they believed was a $100,000 SUV that was stolen earlier in the week.
Suspects in stolen $100,000 car evade police twice
A white Range Rover was spotted by and Aurora Police officer at East Exposition Avenue and South Chambers Road just after 7:30 p.m. It is believed that Range Rover could be the same as a custom built SUV that was stolen on Monday.
Police say the truck hit at least three cars at East Mississippi Avenue and South Buckley Road and the chase continued.
Two people were injured in one of the cars hit by the Range Rover.
Police say the pursuit went for 15 minutes before the truck crashed near East Jewell Avenue and South Powhatan Road.
Police say they have one suspect in custody, but are still looking for others.
Police believe three men are responsible for several car thefts and break-ins in the area over the last few days in Cherry Hills Village.
Police say it started Sunday when a truck was stolen in Greenwood Village.
The same stolen truck was then used in another car theft on Monday. This time police say the men drove through a private gate in the Country Home Sunset Drive neighborhood and stole the $100,000 custom Range Rover.
Security cameras at the residence showed a man get into the car and drive away.
"In this case the keys were left in the vehicle and these suspects were looking for a car and they had an easy acquisition," said Cherry Hills Village Police Chief John Patterson.
Police say the same men also stole another car in the same neighborhood after they took the Range Rover.
On Wednesday morning, Cherry Hills Village Police got a call about a suspicious vehicle in the area.
Police confronted the suspects in the stolen Range Rover but could not catch them.
"They drove over yards to get away from us; they were westbound on Quincy Avenue and ran a red light at Broadway. The police officer called off the pursuit at that point in time because it was too dangerous," said Patterson.
The Colorado State Highway patrol also caught up with the stolen Range Rover on Wednesday along C-470, but that pursuit was also called off when the suspects started running other cars off the road.
"We need to get these people in custody as soon as possible," said Patterson.
The men were last seen driving a white 2006 Range Rover with a temporary license plate 194374 B.
Cherry Hills Village Police say the car was also used in several break-ins and car prowls in the Cherry Hills area on Wednesday.
