I've owned a Condor in the past, and it's a nice antenna but it's big and bulky (meaning quite thick for an antenna). I personally feel the Diamond RH-77CA is the best all-around whip antenna available today for general scanning use. The Diamond is typically cheaper too...

I never used the condor but had great success with the diamond. It works very well on airband both VHF and UHF. It is thin unlike the condor. The only potential issue is the length. About 18 inches. Overall, a great antenna

I have to agree with the quote,I've owned both antennas also and I have to agree overall the RH-77CA is the better antenna

I have both and prefer the RH-77. The Condor looks like a sex toy and am not all that impressed with the performance. Gave it away.

Me too had a condor for years, it sat in the junk drawer, I was NEVER impressed with it, it's big, heavy and really does NOT perform the way it's advertised to. I think the only reason they ever sold was because when you look at one it lokks like a cool antenna and you think it will be good, only to find out, it's not. Finally sold mine on ebay, almost just tossed it.

Buy the Diamond. Be warned that it WILL cause some strain on your BNC connector because of it's length and flex. I have one, also on a 97 and expose it to extreme vibration and continous shaking movements mucho daily. I know I am causing damage to the connector but refuse to use another for my monitoring needs. Good, on 800 band that I can note but that system for me is a stretch.

The Condor calamity

I use the Condor, but haven't tried the Diamond.
I use it when hiking in the desert and have found that the physical design of the antenna is great for the enviroment that I am in, I kick the crap outta that thing and it comes back for more everytime. I pickup APCO 25 from Phoenix ,BP from Tuscon and pilots that are training out at Barry Goldwater firing ranges,,,well it sounds like I'm sitting in the backseat of the jet while this guy rolls in for another bombing run. The one thing I did to reduce strain on my BC396 was build a mounting bracket for it out of a .99 clamp from home depot, an insulated BNC female pass through connector from L-COM and a chunk of RG6 coax. I then clamp the antenna on the back of my Ruck, and connect it to the radio on my shoulder harness and hit the field.
In case your interested, I added two pictures of the setup.
