To start I'm in Enfield...When I listen to Avon Fire on the dispatch frequency of 460.575 with the PL of 88.5 most of the transmissions I receive have a little static, But one unit comes in full quieting, it maybe the Chief since he is alway instructing other units. I know there are these tower sites:

# Tower ID Type Ant Height Struc Height Elevation Address
1 N/A B 12.0 16.0 277.0 TALCOTT MOUNTAIN SCIENCE CTR
2 N/A TOWER 12.0 15.0 64.0 60 W MAIN ST
3 N/A TANK 12.0 24.0 140.0 WATER TANK RIDGEWOOD RD
4 N/A TANK 18.0 22.0 218.0 WATER TANK HUCKELBERRY HILL RD
5 1046016 TOWER 158.0 158.0 215.0 375 DEERCLIFF RD
6 N/A B 9.0 18.0 104.0 25 DARLING DR

Why do I hear this one person clearer/louder?
Don't they use one repeater at a time? I grew up in Avon and all the time scanning there I didn't hear anyone stronger then anyone else. Thanks for any feedback.

I am fairly certain Avon uses several repeaters. The easiest way is to use different input PL's but you could also use remote control of turning them on and off. You might not notice a difference in the area where the system is designed to operate but when you leave that area, it becomes very obvious.
In this case, it is likely they are operating on 2 different repeaters.

These transmission are at the same time , Avon Dispatch and others are weaker then this One person(A Duty Officer maybe but it's the same person with the same mannerism I've been listening for a long time)Same pl., I know that they have six different repeater location as in my first post(from RR DATA BASE). But are you saying they may operate more then one repeater at the same time? Wouldn't this cause interference with two or more repeaters operating at the same time in such a small area?

It's possible they have transmit steering, when a unit votes to an area the transmitter is also voted. It does make for problems when you have multiple units having conversations. Unit A votes the south tower, but in between unit B brings up the north tower, than when a unit answers unit A they are on the wrong tower.

why do they need all those towers. they have one at talcott science ctr top of the mountain. should be able to work well in all of town for the highest point there.

High up isn't always the answer. You can get more interference from distant stations. If the system isn't engineered correctly, the signal could fly right overhead and the area right below the ridge may not have good coverage.
