posted on 4/3/2008...Last month the DRN changed VHF frequencies. South Mountain is now operating on 141.450. Other DRN statewide frequencies 139.350, 139.4375 and 139.7125. All DRN sites are simulcasted.

The towers appear to be transmitting a CWID, so if you can monitor the freqs and read the CWID, we can ID the freq/site plan.

So far I can tentatively identify
the following based upon CWIDs from the sites:
139.3500 AZNG/TOW = Towers Mtn
139.4375 AZNG/ELD = Mt Elden (Flag)
139.7125 AZNG/SOU = South Mtn

No traffic heard on 141.450 or the older freqs from the thread from my QTH.

141.45 is still actively/daily used down here in Pima County. I've been hearing much more border flight activity/check-ins. The Wednesday 10am DRN checkins are still happening.

Just curious, is there a CWID on that freq?

John,

Hadn't really paid attention. I'll give a listen. I don't have a radio to dedicated to record at the moment. Just rebuilt my computer after a hard crash :( Rebuilding all the software now :)

I looked for the original thread, but can't find it..

What is the DRN? I see someone lists some "statewide" freqs for it, so I'm wondering if I should put the freqs in & possibly hear something in northern Coconino & Mohave Counties.

So if 139.7125 is the new tx freq for the SOuth Mountain Repeater, has anyone figured out where 141.450 is tx'ing from?

I'll put in the 139.4375 Mt Elden output in my scanner. I assume that the site 5 repeater at Roof Butte in northern Apache County has probably changed freqs from 149.125, so I'll hope to hear Mt. Elden plus search for the new Roof Butte output the next time I'm home on a Wednesday morning. There's a slight chance I will hear the sites if their ERP & HAAT are good.

while i was up listening to the luke afb exercise i happen to tune in to see what i could hear from where i was

i did catch on 139.7125 2-3 signals on there but didn't get a chance to grab pl's to see what sites they were from

well today confirmed my listening as i could hear nothing but the repeater on hualapai on 139.7125 with a pl 100.00
so theres another one to add to the list

Good catch Jerry!

If you get the chance, can you confirm it has a CWID; should be AZNG/HUA if it follows the pattern.

It also appears to confirm that they are reusing freqs as did the older system. Here's our list to date:

  • Towers Mtn 139.3500
  • Mt Lemmon 141.4500
  • Hualapai Mtn 139.7125
  • Mt Elden 139.4375
  • South Mtn 139.7125

John,
What are the PL's for the towers that you've ID'd? I will add these frequencies to the database today.

The PL for the ones I've heard (Towers Mtn 139.3500,Mt Elden 139.4375 and South Mtn 139.7125) is 100.0. Jerry confirmed same for Hualapai 139.7125.

DRN Yuma County

Found 143.4375 in Yuma Today during the 10am checks for Telegraph. Pretty sure its the input, any idea what the output would be based on other pairs?

Arizona State Department of Emergency and Military Affairs - Disaster Radio Network

So they're emergency management and Arizona Army and Air National Guard.

They also have several talkgroups on the APS statewide trunked radio system: 1168 EOC 1; 1200 EOC 2; 1232 Interstate; 1680 Interagency.

The Wednesday morning check-in net starts on the APS trunked system, then switches over to the VHF DRN system. Various check-ins can be heard randomly during the day on both systems as well. The VHF system is used for flight following, so status checks can be heard on occassion.

----------

Maricopa County emergency management uses 47.660 MHz (127.3 Hz CTCSS), TG 1565 on the RWC trunked system, and a couple of talkgroups on the Maricopa County trunked system (24016, 24048, & 24080, although I don't think I've ever heard those three in actual use).

I can confirm the input for Towers and Elden is in the 148.XXX range. I believe this is a common input freq across the system, along with the output CTCSS of 100.0hz (KYOTE flights flying over my QTH and trigger the close call!)

If you can confirm a CWID (likely AZNG/TEL), it is the repeater output.

And as an update the Towers repeater does not seen to be simulcast with Elden and S Mtn any more, although it occasionally is active with traffic transitioning from Northern AZ to PHX.
