Does anyone have any tips to simplify programming this mobile? I've been going through the manual, but it's proving difficult to accomplish. I got this unit for free from somebody, and if i can get it programmed it will save me quite a bit of money. Then i'll only have to explain the HT and the accessories i want to the wife..... ;-)

After a rather lengthy evening of trial and error, i finally got the programming on this sucker figured out.....what a PITA. However, it was well worth it, seeing how the radio didnt cost me anything. I've shelled out a total of $120 for a power supply and a mobile antenna, which leaves me plenty for that Yaesu HT i've been eyeballing. I have picked up several repeaters from my living room with a mag mount antenna slapped on top of my power supply. The audio is crystal clear. Too bad i can't transmit yet. I'm going for my test Saturday. Hope to see some of you on the air soon.

Good luck with the test! I wouldn't transmit though on that small of a ground plane, receive is fine (as you obviously already know). Get it on the roof of a vehicle and then you shouldn't have any ground issue.

Thanks! The antenna's a mag mount, so i get more portability with the rig as it won't be a permanent installation in the vehicle. It was just convenient to have it stuck to the power supply. I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow. I've been doing the practice tests i've found on several websites and been consistently hitting 90% or better for the last week.
