If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have the strangest thing going on trying to get this radio to work and could use some guidance.

I have programmed it with the software that ships with it, everything seems fine. I am trying to use it with a MMDVM hotspot. The problem is, it appears to be receiving as the green light illuminates when there is an incoming signal, but I do not hear audio.

I grabbed a different radio (Alinco) that was already programmed for DMR and it works with the hotspot as it should, so it isn't the hotspot. Both radios are trying to talk on 3148 I believe, the Texas State group, so I know the group is working. When someone talks on the group I can clearly hear them on the Alinco, and the green light comes on on the Baofeng, but there is no audio. I know the audio works because I can switch channels on the Baofeng and the voice announcement is clear and loud so I think there is some configuration issue that I just can't seem to put my finger on.

I should also mention that when I press the PTT on the Baofeng the dashboard on the MMDVM shows it received it and everything looks good, right group, reasonable BER, etc. Trying the parrot at 9990 I think it is does the same thing, I can key it up but I hear nothing back.

Any suggestions appreciated, even if there is a better forum to post this in. I just don't know where to go from here.

That radio may require you have talkgroups in receive groups. I have one, too and i've got it programmed to use receive groups for each talkgroup.

I have the contact in RX Group List List 1, and have the channel set to that contact and that RX Group List. So I "think" I have it set right.

OK.... hopefully it works now. I think, however, I took receive groups out as a test and it still worked... can't be for sure though. Let me know how it goes.

Sorry for the confusion, that is how it was set up and did not work. I have attached my config file for the radio if you wouldn't mind comparing them to yours. Or, you can send me yours and I will do the comparing. Whatever is easier for you. I appreciate the help.

Actually.... take a look at mine. It's a lot simpler. It may be best to start simple and go from there.

So what I did was take your configuration and change the frequency for channel 2 and 5 to the frequency used by my hotspot, then changed your radio ID to mine. I then uploaded that config to my radio and tested it. I get the same behavior.

If I switch to channel 2 (parrot) and transmit, it waits a few seconds and then the receive green light comes on for the approximate time I spent talking, but I hear nothing.

If I switch to channel 5 (Ohio statewide) I can "see" people talking. In other words, the green light comes on occasionally as it would when people are talking, but again I hear nothing.

I do hear the radio when I change channels announce one, two, three, etc so the speaker and amp work. With another radio on the same hotspot I can hear people talking so I don't think it is the hotspot. It has to be something defective with the radio unless someone here has another idea.
