• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I purchased 2 Baofengs off eBay a few weeks ago and having a issue with the units in vfo mode.

When i am in vfo mode lets say on frequency of 446.000 Mhz or even 467.850 I press the up arrow or the down arrow it jumps to 259.043 Mhz or 243.500 Mhz instead of 446.005 or 467.875 depends on the step rate. The 3rd baofeng I have had for a year or more when i do the same steps as with the new units the vfo increases to the next frequency a step at a time it doesn't jump to the next band.
Just wondering why or do I have a bad baofeng or a setting that I am over looking.

They're like Bic lighters. When they quit working, you throw 'em away.

Sounds to me like the 'UHF' band has been defined as 200-ish MHz instead of the 400-470/480/520 MHz as it should be. Loading someone else's saved file from a model not identical to yours can do that. Write your own configuration file with CHIRP, and while in there, define the upper limit as 450 MHz.

That might not work unless you use a pristine CHIRP image that matches the radio to start with. If you use a screwed up CHIRP image or one from another radio with different firmware you might not be able to fix it.

That's why the first thing you do with any CCR out of the box is save the programming the way it was shipped in case something gets screwed up you have a better chance of being able to fix it.

If you buy used radios or ones from eBay or Amazon you don't know what you are getting. They could have been screwed up by somebody and resold to the next sucker.

Sounds like they were DOA. That is why those CCRs are considered throwaway models. Check out the Yaesu FT-65R for a much better radio.

I have to agree. I have a Yaesu UV-3R that I bought used in 2012 and a VX-6 that I bought a couple of years later. Both have continuously served me well.

I dumped my CCRs a long time ago. They were more trouble than they were worth. Come to think of it, they really weren't worth much.
