To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.
To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.
The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Off topic question @PDXh0b0 out of the box it does UHF MilAir? And, if so, how is reception? Thinking about getting one before airshow in a few weeks.

No. The UV-5R and UV-82 type radios have a one time programmable microprocessor.
Even if you could reload the firmware it would be stupid to try to load the firmware written for another totally different type of radio. Even if the software used to load the firmware recognized the wrong radio and allowed it you would likely end up with a brick.
No. they are very different radios than Quansheng. Even if possible, the firmware is much different. (different CPU cores)
I have both the Baofeng UV-5R and the UV-K5(8). The K5 simply beats the pants off the 5R, more power, more otions, open source firmware that can be reflashed in minutes expanding and improving over stock. For $35,, buy two.
The K5 8 is the hottest ticket in the ham and scanner arenas in a long time.
Just stock it is like a 5 band radio from 136 to 600 Mhz, and receive down to 50 MHz. Pre canned weather and air band.
Cheap Chinese junk ? yep, but it works.

Yep it sure does, and will transmit which is a very bad thing. The RX is better than the Baofeng.
That is another topic, transmitting ouside amateur bands that will violate FCC ruels and even federal laws. It is on you if you do.
Stock amateur bands are 2 meter, 1.5 meter, and 70 Cm. Power on 1.5 meters is down a bit, but a tri band antenna,it is usable.
