I am new so forgive me if this is stupid to ask. I have a whistler 1065 I just bought and am strongly considering a return after reading about it. However I want to listen to barrow county pd and fire along with a few surrounding counties such as Jackson, Oconee, Clark, and Monroe. Do I have the best scanner for these areas? Any recommendations are appreciated.

Barrow - 100% Encrypted. You will not be able to listen to any Police or Fire, with any scanner.
Jackson - Same as Barrow.
Oconee - Same as Jackson
Clark - Same as Oconee
Monroe - Appears to still be on their Trunked DMR system, and is listed as clear in the database. Not sure if the Whistler will decode that. Somebody with more Whistler knowledge please correct me if I am wrong.

Every single county you just named off is encrypted, so you won’t hear anything from any of those counties with any scanner on the market. It’s fairly quiet up in NEGA, and most of the counties that aren’t quiet yet will be quiet within the next few years.

Like all others said every county you mentioned is 100% encrypted and there's nothing that radio can do for you, unfortunately. Oconee (Seems a select amount of talkgroups are unencrypted such as PW so you can use your radio to listen to that similar to Jackson.) Clarke also has mostly encrypted talkgroups besides some UGA stuff and Public Works and utilities but Barrow is 100% encrypted nothing can be heard on their system.

Nope, the WS1065 won't do DMR. These scanners will, although paid upgrades are required for most. Also Whistler scanners cannot trunktrack DMR systems. Whistler never bought the licenses, which is why the upgrades are free. The best these scanners can do is to decode the audio. This may be sufficient on systems that aren't too busy, but for busier systems, this is a serious limitation.

I assume the OP means city of Monroe which is in Walton County bordering Barrow County and not Monroe County which is near Macon. If so, they are on the OARS system in which all public safety talkgroups in Walton County including the City of Monroe are encrypted.

yes it is basically dead up there for scanners. you can hear UGA transit on the Clarke system if that tickles your fancy, but that's about it. I've been monitoring the athens-clarke system quite a bit lately and found that the dispatchers are not in the clear as the database suggests, but I'll let someone that lives there and monitors it more update the database if true

Does anyone have an updated control channel for Barrow? The 800mhz ones listed do not appear to be accurate. Just for giggles I put them in and got nothing...no raw audio either when I programmed them in analog to see if there was activity.

You may be out of range, or using wrong frequencies then.

Barrow uses 700 MHz control channels, and they are confirmed accurate in the database.

Sorry for the delayed response; I don't check this often. To clarify, I was attempting to monitor the 700MHz control channel(s) and was in the parking lot of BCFD station 1. I found it odd, I don't have access to Unitrunker or anything like that when I'm away from home.
