Base antenna question

I just got my first scanner , BCD996XT and wondered which base antenna would be better, best. I don't mind the outside antenna but don't want a 50 foot high unit. Thanks

The "best antenna" question will never be answerable. Instead, you're better off asking the best antenna for what you want to monitor while not overlooking what you have to work with... ie, condo, attic space, roof top, tower, etc. Also, you will probably be better off asking in the antenna forum.
