I know that when the solution to this is posted, I'm going to smack my forehead a la "I could have had a V8," but that solution is eluding me right now.

My BC246T is programmed with the local info via BuTel software, and scans like a big dog when I turn it on. The problem is that it only scans, and doesn't stop on a busy freq when someone is on the air. Friday night in a heavy rainstorm, there is traffic aplenty, but my scanner won't play it.

When I hit the HOLD button, it's as likely as not that someone will be talking, a dispatcher or police officer for instance, but when I hit scan again I'm back to the endless, fruitless scan.

Is this a trunked radio system? If so check to see if it has rebanded and update the custom tables. You will need to apply a firmware update to listen to rebanded systems, if you haven't already. If not a rebanded system you may have to reset the radio by turning it on & depressing the HOLD + 2 + 9 keys and reload the programmed systems.

And to add to Keith's question - which trunked system and where? Go to the blue toolbar upper left under the site title, float your mouse over Database and use the pulldowns to get to your area.

Best Regards...Mike

It is trunked, and I download the firmware update before posting on here.

This is Knoxville, TN that I'm talking about: Knox PD, Knox FD, Knox EMS, KCSO. I'll have to take a look at the frequencies and talkgroups and see what, if anything, changed.

Thanks for the replies.

If this is the system, it shows as having rebanded. There's also a note about "four new control channels added", though only one of the four is tagged as a control. See this thread. (Note: For this specific system, you do not need the custom band plan for rebanded systems, due to the frequencies assigned.)

Besides making sure you have the correct control frequencies entered, you also might consider adding some (I'd add all) of the remaining frequencies. My first guess, if your scanner is working ok on other systems, is that this system is using a control channel other than one of the four listed in the database. Maybe one of them has changed, maybe another was added. If you add all of them, then manually step through the frequencies, see if you hear the control channel 'rumble' on on one of the other listed freq's.

There's also a comment in that rebanding thread that many of the talkgroups changed from the pre-reband system. But of you've just downloaded the system, I'm presuming you have the current, correct ones.
