OK I have a question, I have both radios with the same thing programmed in both radios.
The thing is on the 246 the memory usage shows 96% full whereas the 330 only shows 10%.
Can anyone explain this discrepancy. The specs on both radios say 2500 max. It's not such a big deal to me but does pose an interesting question as to why.

I know it just seems odd unless there is something wrong with my 246. I used ARC246 to program it I had it erase everything first. When I checked it was 0% memory used and when I program the systems into it it ends up with the 96% full.
It's not such a big deal to me but I'm not in an area where I need more than I have programmed into it.

I have about 30 more broadcast freqs in my 330T, but other than that I have basically the same programming in my 246T. I use FreeSCAN for both scanners.
246T shows 25%
330T shows 12%

I just did a reset on the radio, using 2, 9 Hold Power. I then uploaded all the systems again. Now it shows 14% used. This makes much more sense. Somehow there were things in memory that didn't show up either through the radio or software.
The BC246T now seems to me to have more than enough memory.
I'm glad I finally did the reset manually rather then rely on the software to clear everything.

I haven't done a full wipe like you did, but I did have freescan wipe everything out before putting it all back at one point. I ended up having duplicates of certain things. I think I had changed names in the software and it put it back as another group. Or some stuff was in there twice without a quick key so you didn't notice.

I know it just didn't seem to make sense. Should have done that when I first bought the radio.
It was a refurb now I can add things I might want to listen to like State Police, some of it like car to car is APCO-25 conventional but the dispatch is analogconventional.

The original discrepancy would be odd. However, as the 2nd post pointed out, the BC246T requires 2 slots for channels with alpha tags whereas the BR330T requires only 1 slot, regardless of alpha tag use.

BR330T has 2500 channels.
BC246T has 2500 channels max (1500 typical).

Hi Paul
There was something taking up the memory that wasn't showing up anywhere didn't show going through the radio or downloading from the radio.
The hard reset cleared whatever it was.
I should have done the reset in the first place.

Could you possibly have had a ton of Close Call stuff stored? I did that once, and then completely forgot that I had that "extra" system in my 246T. (Although you did say you went through the radio, where it should have shown up).

I've had the same thing happen to my BC246T, where FreeScan would show the memory only 30% full, and then after syncing it, it would be 99% full! Ends up the BC246T cannot deal with trunking sites. If you have more than one site set up in the program, it adds talkgroups multiple time, and it can eat up memory fast. I'm still trying to figure out how to combine multiple sites into one, and if there's a way to do it, I'm happy to listen!
