I've had my BC396XT since they first came out but this morning, began experiencing an issue I've never encountered before. In my car, I have a 396XT in my glove box connected to an RH-96 remote on the console. Each time I power up the car (and the scanner/remote), it powers up on "HOLD" and on a talkgroup that I was not monitoring when I last turned it off. When I last turned off the scanner, it was in "SCAN" mode so I can't figure out why the scanner/remote is powering up in "HOLD" mode.

Any ideas?

No, I checked on that. Besides, it's unlikely that it would cause it to be on hold only when I power it up AND allow it to scan normally when it press "SCAN".

That is odd as the DMA scanners are supposed to power up in the same operating state that they were turned off in. Have you tried powering it up without it being connected to the control head? Also, how do you turn it off and on? That is, have you removed the batteries and are powering the scanner externally with a switch? Or do you have the batteries in and have to use the power button on the scanner?

I could be wrong so don't hold me to this but i remember something about the "last mode" not being preserved if power is removed from the 396XT. The power switch has to used for that function to work.

Is the word "Hold" flashing?

If so long press the Hold key to turn off system Hold.

Marshall gets the (imaginary) prize - it evidently was a system HOLD because his suggestion worked. Not sure how I put it in system HOLD - Marshall, got a clue about that so I don't repeat it?

Thanks to everyone who wrote in

Pressing and holding HOLD holds on the current system. Doing it again releases the hold.
