Just picked up a BC895XLT at a flea market and was wondering if there's any freeware out there for programming it?

Thanks.

If I remember correctly **PC895** was a program that would upload to it and also control it. I also think that it would allow it to trunk and scan conv freq tho it was maybe a little awkward in that mode but it did work. You can go on several website to get the schematics for the cable if you didn't get one when you purchased it.

No PC895 won't do trunk and conventional, but Winscan 2.1 could. When last I looked, Scanner Master (which was the last one I know of selling Pozilla software, as they closed their doors a long time ago) had no more copies. You might write them and ask, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Actually Scan Control works pretty well for the 895 - it's commercial, but well supported, and has a copy/paste utility (the 'Data Grabber') that can be used to pull data from the RR databases.

PC895 is, I think, stored on the 2 895 Yahoo groups. However being so old I have no idea whether it will work on Vista. Our wiki for the 895 has the links. Insofar as the connecting cable is concerned, the FAQ on Strong Signals (also linked on the wiki) has the diagram, among other places. However given that a lot of PCs don't have serial ports anymore, you will need a USB connection. The folks at Scan Control has this as well in their accessories area.

I did some reviews of 895-compatible software, some freeware and some not. They too are linked on the wiki. Stay away from Scancat Lite Plus, at all costs.
