From what I've read, it looks to me like the BC95XLT will be exactly the same as the Pro-83, with the possible addition of the ability to block pager frequencies during Close Call.
Don't be too hasty about that short antenna on the PRO-83. I have 8 rubber ducks, including the Radio Shack 800MHz one, and it outperforms 4 of them on Hi band and equals the other 3. Quite surprising.

Dick it's awful, the worst ever. The g.w. bush of rubber ducks!! I got an 83 2years ago in the black friday sale. It is with me at Hollyweird beach for my plane watching (FLL). The radio is OK when used with the 20-006 whip, but that stock duck is useless.
(probably the biggest outside of PC Programmability): It is BLUE!!!
Oh, and it includes Close Call DND mode to prevent the audio from being chopped up when Close Call is on.
Another advantage of the BC95 is that you can tranfer channels from the scanner to the PC. The pro-83/84 is one way communication only ( Pc to scanner).

Wifey, Just got me one for my birthday. It's pretty neat. didn't come with the auto plug and I'm still not familiar with all of it's workings, but, all in all i like it. Got it from bearcatwarehouse.com for $108.00. I paid to have it shipped UPS 3 day and it actually got here in two.
