BCD436HP/BCD536HP: BCD3600XLT firmware update V 1.28.15

Good afternoon,

As this is my first post I will shortly introduce myself. I’m Johan van de Kaa and I’m living almost in the middle of The Netherlands. I have a BCD3600XLT for several years now and recently got a sds200e. Most if the time I’m listening to the civil-/military airband and DMR.

I have a question regarding firmware update v 1.28.15 for the BCD3600XLT. On the UBCD3600XLT webpage of www.avera.eu (Dutch importer of Uniden scanners) is firmware version V1.28.15 still mentioned as scheduled for “mid 2022”. I‘ve sent them some e-mails to ask them about this specific firmware but the only answers I receive are, at least, showing a lack of service. Sentinel can’t find a more recent FW update for my BCD3600XLT and says that my current version (v 1.26.00) is the most recent one. I hear that newly sold BCD3600XLT’s have version v 1.28.15 installed 😳

Does someone have more info regarding FW V 1.28.15 and/or why older BCD3600XLT’s can’t update?


I realize that a DCD3600XLT is a European model however I noticed that there are quite some European members on RR 😊

Maybe it's just an update to support new hardware that have replaced obsolete ones in newer scanners. If it was also working for older 3600's it would have been available when searching for update from Sentinel.

I asume that if this new FW is related with new hardware you would get that as an answer. With this worldwide shortage on microchips new hardware parts in a scanner is not strange. However the answers Avera (importer) give are below standard (to put it mildly) and nothing is mentioned at the Uniden Japan/Europe homepage.

I'm not privy to much from the European side, but I heard there was an improvement in digital decoding that is supposed to be ported to the USA series. I do not have an ETA for that release.

@JoeBearcat if this FW update brings an improvement in digital decoding, the answer to why only new UBCD3600XLT’s have this new FW and older models can’t update to this FW is even more important!

Personally I think it’s an insult to customers that Uniden Japan or Uniden EU have no official customer service. Nowadays, if you buy a $2,50 screwdriver the manufacturer has a customer service. If you buy a few hundred dollars Uniden scanner we can only hope for the best….

You need to update Sentinel for 3600xlt to 1.02 and then you can download fw 1.28. See Avera website.

I was not aware that European models cannot be updated, and I'm frankly suspect of that fact.

Or is there no Sentinel that works on the 'E' models? Sorry, but I'm not up to speed on the 'E' models.

Since June 3rd, the older UBCD3600XLT’s can update to FW 1.28.15 too.
