BCD396XT AC power adapter plug in and battery

I need an advise regarding how to properly use BCD396XT.
90% of time I use scanner at home with AC power adapter plug in and the rechargeable battery are inside.
Do I have to take the battery out?
Is the 14 hours charging time setting fine for most rechargeable battery?
