Hello;

Still new here and to these new scanners. I do try my best to find answers before coming here, so...

Can anyone tell me the difference between Attenuation and Volume offset? I see the definition of Attenuation in my "manual" as a 20db offset. Okay, fine. Is that a boost, or? Volume offset is self-explanatory, so why both? I'm sure there's a difference.

The other obvious newbie question is this, what is Tone Out?

Thank you for your patience. I learn more every day thanks to these forums.

Attenuation reduces the amount of RF signal being received. This helps if you are close to other RF sources that might be over-powering your scanner (from broadcast stations, paging, data, etc).

Volume offset increases or decreases the audio. Sometimes a frequency will have really loud or soft audio (say a frequency with a repeater). The volume offset allows you to increase or decrease the audio gain to better match other frequencies / channels.

Hope this helps explain them.
