Hi all,

Just bought a used BCD436HP for a good price with all 3 upgrades installed.

I don’t want to lose the upgrades since I have no idea what the install keys are.

Can I use the Uniden Sentinel software to backup everything? Will updating the scanner via the Uniden Sentinel software keep the upgrades intact?

Thanks!

Not to worry. You can't delete or uninstall the upgrades. They're also registered with Uniden via the serial number of the scanner.

Unless you have to replace the radio itself, once the keys are programmed, it done.
Part of the radio (tied to the ESN)...

I suggest that you check if the seller has a list of the keys if you should need them in the future.

Great advice.

The keys are stored in the part of the scanner memory that is not involved in holding the firmware, so once the keys are entered, you should never have to re-enter them again - including through a firmware update. Still, having the keys is a good idea just in case.

You can also have the original owner de-register the unit on my.uniden.com so you can register it there.

This brings a question to my mind. Some years back I remember sending my BCD436HP back to Uniden for them to do DMR upgrade, but I don't think I was ever given a key. How would one go about finding out what the key is? I am on my.uniden.com and I see where it gives the option to purchase DMR, ProVoice and NXDN but I don't to repurchase DMR if I don't have too. What is the best way to verify?

There may be a way, but this will have to be a low priority issue since you should never need that key. If you have any paperwork on the purchase, keep that in a safe place. Are you certain it was Uniden you sent it to and not a dealer?

If it offers you the purchase of DMR, that means either you didn't register the radio or the registration didn't apply to your serial number.

Perhaps @JoeBearcat can verify this.

Does the Serial Number shown at My.Uniden match your scanner?

It only means the upgrade was not purchased on my.uniden.com.

Actually, No I am not 100% sure. I just did a search in my emails and I could not find the DMR update reference. I did however, find my receipt for my purchase which was on 03/28/2014 from BearCatWarehouse. So I may have sent if back to BearCat Warehouse. If I remember correctly, it was a free upgrade and all I had to do was pay shipping to/from where I sent it. It was so long ago.

It should not have been a free upgrade unless BCW did something on their own to package the unit and upgrade together.

Regardless, if it was purchased from them it would not show on my.uniden.com

Again, since you should never need it, it will be a low priority issue. If you can find some documentation from when you got it that would be to your advantage.

Doesn't the person downloading the upgrade have to register the scanner with Uniden?

No. Upgrades can be purchased from dealers. However, if you purchase them yourself at my.uniden.com there is a record of the key. The dealers may or may not retain that info, and may or may not forward that info to you.

If you purchase the upgrades at my.uniden.com you must register first.

I have bought several USED 325p2's 996p2's 436's, and 536's with DMR and or NXDN
I registered the scanners to buy the upgrade not included and it did not show the key on my.uniden.com just the key I bought.
This is why I ALWAYS ask for the key from the seller and add it in a spreadsheet I have.
