Before I make my final decision, what one gets simulcast a bit better on average? Both phase 1 and phase 2.

EDIT: besides the sds100 guys, i'll get a pager before I get the SDS radios anyways.

Between those two I'd give the vote to the 436HP. When I owned a TRX-1 it was plain useless on numerous simulcast systems in my region whereas I get spotty simulcast reception from my 436HP which I still own depending on my location relative to two or more simulcasting towers. My SDS100 blows them both out of the water

Ok, then a Unication G pager. I am not going to recommend anything less than this, SDS or an SDR dongle for someone who thinks they are in a heavy simulcast area, as I don't want to be blamed for your forthcoming dissatisfaction.

either are too expensive at the moment for me, but will get them future. But if you can recommend an SDR dongle too, that would be nice.

Stuff that doesn’t work is usually cheaper than stuff that does work. I’ll leave it at that.

Regarding SDR, I’m running an RTL-SDR it it seems ok but has a more narrow bandwidth than some more expensive options.

Agreed, this definitely is not a cheap hobby & the system engineers don't build out these systems with the hobbyist in mind. Hah, far from it! :ROFLMAO:

A pager is not a true scanner and will be somewhat limited in features and ability compared to a good scanner.

Where are you located in relation to these towers? Chance are you won't be happy with either one do to simulcast issues. Get the SDS series scanner as other suggested, preferably the SDS200 over the SDS100 if you don't really need the portability. Eventually you will be assimilated. Buy once, cry once!

Like I said, on a budget, i'll probably get something like that later. This is for the mean time!
