When in AP mode, is the PC's WiFi connected to the scanner?

AP mode does not use the network at all.

In fact, I believe in AP mode the IP would not be anything like 192.168.x.x, but something like 10.x.x.x

And for Access Point it will tell you the address it is using which will not be on your network.

Nope mine defaults to 192.168.1.1 whereas my home router is 192.168.0.1

Are you using an IPHONE?
Is your IPHONE running on your home network or your cell phone carrier?
If I remember right you connect to the scanner with just the address and use a vnc to connect to the audio using the full address above.

Did you connect your phone to the scanner first? You're telling it to access a device on a network it might not yet be connected to.

Infrastructure and Access Point are two different tools.

Access Point is where your iPhone and scanner are within about ten feet of each other. The iPhone links directly to the scanner dongle for control/audio purposes.

Infrastructure can be likened to a radio repeater - something that extends the range of transmission and reception. The scanner dongle links to the router and the iPhone also links to the router. The result is your iPhone can be farther away from your scanner for control/audio purposes (limited by the "reach" of your wifi router).

thanks, I understand the 2 systems, I guess you use the access mode when you don't have wifi to use, have both working with VLC and controls, I guess I read the info wrong I thought you could monitor scanner mounted at home and monitor it on my phone away from home like driving.also is there anyway to set avoids on remote program, thanks everyone for all the help.
