Can I use the default full database with location based scanning? I don’t have any favorites lists programmed but just want to hear my statewide P25 system while driving through the state. Is this possible or does anyone recommend a particular programming setup?

Thanks!

GPS connected ? I think there is a GPS symbol that should shown on display. After that it’s automatic for the full database. Favorite lists involves a few more steps.

Oh yeah, as mentioned below… set range. I would normally set it to 0 to 5 miles.

I guess I should ask how. Can’t seem to get the sites to turn on and off as I drive.
You would want to enable GPS and the full database to do that. (And manage your Service Types.) But it’s not all that exact. I used it on a couple of trips from Ct. to Fla. on I-95. While it did drop systems that were going out of range and pick up those coming into range, while I had the Range set as low as it would go, it still wasn’t borderline cutoff. I’ve never bothered with the rectangular patterns, instead sticking with the circular. But if I were to try what you want with the Ct. State Police, and get the scanner to jump from Troop to Troop, I doubt it would give me anything close to what the Troop’s coverage areas are. It would work but I believe you’d need to do a lot of custom rectangular plotting.

How do I enable GPS? I’ve read the manual and it came with a USB Uniden GPS. I’m normally able to figure this stuff out on my own by reading and searching online, but I’m not getting anywhere this time!

Are you referring to the USB dongle that came with your BCD536HP scanner as a GPS? That’s for Wi-Fi connection. You need to purchase a separate GPS unit if you don’t have one already.

Oh I was told that was a GPS. That must be it. I’ll try to hook up another GPS to the serial port and test that.

Is there any setting to enable the GPS?

This is the device you need: Uniden GPS Receiver for BCD996XT/BCD996P2/BCT15X/BCD396XT/BCD325P2/SDS100/SDS200 | Scanner Master

There are other things on the 'net that proclaim to GPS devices, but there are those who have been disappointed when they take the cheap route.

It is plug and play, as long as you put the receiver where it has a view of the sky. It'll take a few minutes to acquire satellites the first time it is used. That said a lot of folks overthink this when they first get a GPS device.
