I have both, but the 536 is assigned to VHF/UHF aviation, conventional systems, and the like. The SDS 200 is for the simulcast public safety frequencies, frequency exploration, etc.

Tonally, they sound a bit different, but only when I listen for a difference.

I farm out all of my scanner audio to good quality external speakers, as I usually do not care for the audio straight out of the component speaker. My fav external speaker is the Yaesu MLS/Vertex 4-inch speakers - they sound great. Good bass response, not tinny, clear when volume is turned up. I currently have 8 of them and very satisfied with them.

I should’ve specified. I’m using the Motorola mobile speakers

Using headphones or external speakers, the difference is negligible between any of the SDS or x36 models.
