Yes you can. It has settings of 0 - 19.

1 might not always do it depending on the background noise level. I use 2 for everything all the time and never have the need to touch it. That's for two BCD996P2's and two SDS200's. Squelch doesn't seem to play a big part once you get into the digital modes.
