Hi I have an old BCD996T and it has all the OPP groups in it but someone has pressed something on it so now it wants to scan for Qck. Save Cnv. Sys and some other types of searches. I just want to stop this and go back to only searching the trunked memory. Tried looking up a manual on line but nothing seems to explain how to only scan the trunked memory. All the OPP groups are there and it will go through them once but then wants to search or scan some conventional bands. Or search for frequencies to store. thanx tim.

Seems you toggled search and scan feature on. Just google “mark’s Easier to read bcd996t manual”.

Hello, group, I have some questions about this scanner, I recently picked one up for cheap not knowing anything about its operation, after reading several posts in other forums. what I wanted to know is this the same programming protocol as the hp-1?, or is it an entirely different animal.

It is a different animal, tho related. You can start here to learn about it...

It doesn't use Sentinel. There are a few packages (one freeware) that work with this scanner; FreeScan (freeware), ARC996 and ProScan. You could say that this scanner uses the first version of DMA architecture, the HP series are newer versions of the same thing.

There was an Uniden programming software for the 996T. If memory serves it may have been a cd that came with the scanner.
Freescan is free. I had ACR996 but it doesn't seem to like the newer versions of windows.
It's a good scanner, still use mine as a back-up for the house scanner. Worked great in the vehicle too.
