I am new to the "scanner world"... I thought I could just program a frequency and that is it... oh no... they have "trunked channels".... can someone please tell me how to program the uniden bct-8 scanner? i live in bell county texas, and want to hear what is going on...

If this is the system you mean http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&sid=6
then as it says it's an EDACS system, the scanner needs to be programmed for EDACS using the proper LCN order listed with the frequencies (the little numbers)

i thank you for the info, i got that much of it done, but as far as the "talk groups" that the pd, fire dept, etc i can't get programmed. i can leave them blank and it will pick up EVERYTHING listed, including the city water, the trash truck, etc... i don't care to hear them, lol... any assistance is welcomed....

If you are in "ID Search" you will hear everything listed. I don't have a BCT-8(I have BC 780XLT which is very similar) but you will need to program in the IDs that you want to hear into your bank. Then you will have to switch to "ID Scan" which will allow you to listen to the services that you only want to hear. You didn't say whether you had any programming software or not as this would make it a lot easier to program. Look in your owners manual to see if you can find "Programming ID Scan Lists Manually" if you are not using software. Maybe someone with a BCT-8 can chime in and give you more help as I don't want to lead you astray by using the 780 instructions. Good luck!

ok, i finally figured out how to program the "scan lists", then when i get done, and try to scan, all channels i have programmed, it don't ever "tune" in on any of the scan lists... it will only pick up on the normal programmed channels... I am gonna tinker around with it some more today to see what i can figure out..... Thanks again for the assistance....
