What is the easiest software to use to program a BCT 15?
I would assume that using software to program would make programing a lot easier.

Then from what i have read i would need to get a subscription here and upload frequencies to the software and then to the radio? right?

this is the best imho
http://www.butel.nl/bct15/bct15.html

and you dont have to have a subscription ... it just makes it easier and you are contributing to an awesome site at the same time ... if you dont have a subscription you just have to manually type in the system info into arc15 ... and its not that bad, unless you have some crazy huge system somewhere ... good luck :)

did you see the comparison chart? they all program the scanner, I think the basic adds virtual control, and the pro adds hard disk recording ... it really just depends on how much money you want to spend?

you might want to check out the freeware as well, I'm looking into them now too :)

As I understand it, PC control on the BCT15 with Freescan isn't up yet, but is in the works. For some folks, a simpler programming package is well worth the effort - that way you are concentrating on only 1 set of problems at a time. And it has a copy/paste utility for getting data from the database.

I understand BCTool has trunking working and is getting RR Import fixed (not fully working yet). To me, at least, BCTool has a slight edge, due to the fact that it does have PC control on the BCT15, but when PC control on FreeScan is working, the 2 packages are going to be very close indeed in performance.

Competition is a wonderful thing

BCTool has trunking support now, and with control and sound recording has a bit of an edge over my stuff. But I am almost ready to add audio recording to FreeSCAN, get the 996 version pushed out with control/logging, and eventually have RR import. I do want to push hard over the coming weeks to get everything upgraded and get the website done.

As of Beta 63 bcTool's RR Import seems to be pretty solid. The "Paste System" functionality is working very well for trunked systems as well but not quite there for conventional. There are still a few bugs but overall the guy who develops it has put a pretty impressive package together.

It's been fun to watch the quick development and improvement over the past month.

Haven't tried FreeSCAN. Will have to give it a look.
