When you purchase the Microsoft Windows operating system is comes with a CD key to fully use the product. The key is part of the purchase and represents your license to use the product. If you lose the key, Microsoft is not going to give you a new one. This arrangement is very common in the software industry as the key represents your specifc software purchase and right to fully use the software. Scanner software is inexpensive in comparison to most software so the lesson learned here is not going to severly impact you as is would for someone who lost their key to a software program which retails for several thousand dollars.
IMO, I am buying software not just a registration key! When you purchase MS or other like software you
recieve a CD - the KEY is printed on THAT CD - if you lose the key you lose the CD - so thats not a very good analogy.
Ive purchase dozens of "online" programs/scripts - I have misplaced the registration info in the past and NEVER had an issue recovering it. Uniden just wants to play big boy and say you lost the info we sent you so tough luck - give us some more money.
I paid for the BCT15 UASD registration key - they should have a record of that transaction on file - as such it should be as simple as 123 for them to verify that and provide me with what I have already paid for - why give a paying "previous loyal" customer that kind of flack? Its not like I am trying to rip them off of some physical piece of property like a CD or other hardcopy software - its a reg key I have already paid for - they know that they just want more money! That is NOT how other companies do it! Sure I could see if I was asking for the info every other month they would eventually say sorry we cant help you any longer, but thats NOT the case!
What happens if and when the key delivered via email is lost enroute and the buyer never gets it for any number of reasons? I will tell you what happens - the exact same thing - Uniden give those customers the run around !!!
