bct15xt program cable

i have a new bct15xt scanner and the program cable sent was a serial cable with a female connect on the end and my computer which is a laptop has a serial cable connect which is female to what should i do? i cannot program my scanner anyone have this same problem?

If you have a new laptop, that's not a serial jack - count the number of pins. If it has more than 9 it's likely that's the VGA output.

To connect the scanner and laptop you will need a USB converter. Fortunately there are a number of off the shelf ones that are known to work besides the USB-1 from Uniden. We have a small list of these (nowhere near complete) with some specific tips about using Device Manager here...

Computer serial ports are always male, and only old laptops have them.

Computer VGA (analog display) ports are always female, and are usually blue in color. Almost all laptops have these.

You'll need a USB to serial adapter. There are several threads about which ones are best, how to install drivers, and which programming software works with which device. Do little searching in the Uniden and software forums and you'll get all the information you can use.

I just got one from www.monoprice.com I was originally shopping for some HDMI cables and figured I would get a cable for my scanner as well. Ordered it last monday and was delivered friday (CA -> NJ)
