What programming software are you using? If you attach your programming file, we can take a look at it to check for problems. You will need to zip the file to be able to attach it. Click on Attach files and open the zipped file. There are 13 sites in Clark County. We need to know your city or town to determine the best site or sites. The LV Simulcast site may be a problem with your scanner depending upon your location. The SDS100 and SDS200 are the only scanners specifically designed to receive simulcast sites.

I used freescan and I also loaded the LV simulcast and I believe your right that it is causing the problem, I’m going to install a new antenna this weekend and see if that helps. If not I will definitely send you the file.
thank you.

If your problem is simulcast, a better antenna will make it worse. When dealing with a simulcast site, less signal is more. If you reduce the signal level, it will reduce the number of subsites you receive and that can improve control channel decoding. Try turning on the attenuator and pointing the antenna in various directions. If you move the scanner around the room, you may find a sweet spot where it works. If you attach your file, we can determine if it is a programming problem.

You can certainly try a paperclip or remove the antenna altogether if you are close enough to a single transmitter. If within range of more than one then you'll certainly suffer the effects of simulcast distortion as previously mentioned.

For the 996P2 you will get much better performance by programming the individual sites that are closest to you or most active and not using any of the simulcast systems. I have a 996P2 and this made a huge improvement. You can pretty quickly tell which sites are most active or within your range by monitoring for a bit. Then turn off the ones that you can't hear anyway to speed up the cycle.
