A while back I was looking for the a solution to do the same thing. The best solution is a laptop running ProScan to connect to the desktop running ProScan server for my 996T (and now 396XT). So, no matter where I am in the house, I have the abality to listen to 3 digital scanners at the same time.
Depending on what the goal is, I have had reasonable luck with the C.Crane FM Transmitter.
I use it to stream audio from a computer in one room to a CC FM Radio in another room. Total distance is about 20 feet and having to go through 2 walls. Audio quality is pretty good. The CC FM Radio has a pretty decent antenna on it. For longer distances it would be real easy to replace the antenna on the transmitter with a much better one than the one supplied.
That's a sweet idea. Something you can actually pop open and tweak a bit. I could use my MP3 player with earbuds, would be smaller and lighter than the headphones I bought.I have distances of over 60' after Mod:

I had an issue with noise when I tried to use an older stereo amp to amplify the audio from my laptop that had two scanners running through it. Running a shielded ground wire to the laptop chassis helped a lot. It seemed what I was hearing had to do with the comm port data from the scanner.I'm trying to transmit audio from my computer over wireless speakers. Just ran the cable into the transmitter that was previously connected to the other speaker (left side). Works, but I get noise from the computer, itself. Any ideas how to clean it up?
