• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I’ve gotten my hands on (10) XPR6580’s and while I can get OEM batteries, I just can’t do $80 a battery when I didn’t even put that much into each radio.

Anyone have any recommendations for aftermarket batteries? Extremely light use 99% of the time. Having Impres capabilities would be nice but it’s not a deal breaker.

If I’m honest, I couldn’t pass up the deal. Very good condition and already had the digital entitlement installed. Problem is that costs add up pretty quick when you have (10) bare radios to outfit.

You won’t find an aftermarket Impres battery.
Try Magnum Electronics. They usually have a large selection of batteries. OEM and aftermarket.

Check eBay. There is oodles of them, but make sure you check the seller reviews. I bought a battery and my neighbor did too - both arrived DOA. To the sellers credit they sent me a replacement no questions asked and didn’t even require the return of the faulty battery.

I can't see why anyone would want to use a non-impress battery, the impress Lithium Ion battery system is really cool. I've had really good success buying impress stuff on Fleabay, you just have to be careful who you buy from.

Sometimes good cheap Impres batteries are hard to come by and not everyone wants to spend $90 (and rising) on a new battery. They just need something that works and as stated previously, there are some good alternatives to OEM Impres.

I've changed my opinions a couple of times over the years regarding OEM vs Aftermarket batteries, and my (new) final opinion is that cheaping out on batteries has bitten me in the ass if OEM batteries are still available. If I can get the batteries from the manufacturer that are OEM, I'll save my shekels until I can afford one, as the headache that usually accompanied knockoff batteries isn't worth the money saved.

If the OEM batteries are NLA, and there hasn't been a vendor who has bought the plans, equipment & patents to reproduce them, then I'll buy knockoffs if the pack can't be redone by hand.

There are several companies that sell non-OEM impres compatible batteries.
