Depends on what you want to listen to. The RS 800mhz is good for, well 800mhz and the Diamond RH77CA is one of the best all around antennas. Buy one of each and you will be plenty satisfied.

RS stock antennas are known for their less than stellar performance. Most people I know wind up buying additional antennas to focus on a particular portion of the spectrum, specifically, as Dubbin mentioned, the RS800 and the Diamond RH77CA. I would venture to say that the majority here likely replace the stock antenna fairly quickly after a scanner purchase. At least I know I do!

With the stock antenna, I usually need to rotate the radio in order to receicve optimum results. For critical monitoring of the UHF & 800 Mhz bands, I use an old Regency HX-1000 stock helix antenna that's been cut down to a little over 1 inch total length.

What is it that you Monitor the most? Conventional, Trunked? If ya can give us that info it would help us to help you. If not a State County and City would work.................Hoser
