Hello I'm looking to upgrade my scanner, I have the Uniden BC346XT Analog TrunkTracker III. I live in West Allis which scanner would be a good upgrade?
Nothing you can do about the city. Id say your good with what you got for now as far as Sheriff, MFD and West Allis PD/FD but eventually you definatly want to upgrade to digital, as Mil county is trying to put together their P25, WISCOM is getting rolled out and Washington county is finished. I recommend sticking with uniden but if price is an issue GRE is the way to go.
Yet I still wonder which digital scanner will work the best for my area. Stuck between the GRE PSR 500 & the Uniden Bearcat BCD396XT, looking to the future I guess.
I own the 500 and its a quality scanner, granted it can be pretty confusing and frustrating at first when you get the hang of it you will love it. On the other hand the unidens tend to have more features and work a tad bit better but are normally more expensive, either will probably work but I guess I recommend the GRE, even though it does less.
Are the GRE 500 and Radio Shack Pro-106 models really the same? I know they are both versions of the same scanner but do they perform identically?
And one feature that is important to me is the ability to easily lockout a talk group on the fly and choose whether to permanently lock it out or have it come back the next time you power-up. Can you do this with the GRE/RS models? I know it can be done with the BCD396XT.
