well i think the biggest debate is between the pro-96, and the BCD996T, and sometimes the 396T get thrown in there. there really isnt a best one. its just what YOU need and want. i would go with the 996t however, because it has some 700 mhz that some public safety will use after rebanding is done.

A very open ended question...

I think the best scanner is a scanner that best suits YOUR needs. For example, for general purpose analog scanning, I like my BCT15. For p25, I like my 996T. For HF, I like my PCR1000. All around, the "best scanner" in my entourage is my Icom R-20. It covers everything I could ever listen to. It's portable, and has a built in recorder. Sure it doesn't trunk but it's the BEST SCANNER for my needs.

I would like to listen cordless phones not the digital ones and airplanes conversations. Icom IC-R20 is in my favorite list but also i am thinking about ALINCO DJ-X2000 "World" and AOR AR 8200 MARK 3 . Which one is the best if we compare these scanners? Also What do you recommend me because as i told you cordless phones and airplanes is my subject.

Pro-96 best handheld, performance wise, hands down.

The 396T is a cool scanner, has lots of features, but has nowhere near the reception the Pro-96 does.

As far as base/mobile models, I'll have to give my nod to the 996.

I can't speak for the other two but the R20 has the widest coverage. Best bang for the buck IMO. The dual receive rocks!

I can't speak for you or anyone else here, but I think the best scanner is the 396. I don't know where people are saying it doesnt have the reception of other scanners because almost everything I hear is crystal clear!!

Maybe the radio shack is a better analog scanner, but everything around here is digital.

In my opinion...

Analog only - BC780XLT
Digital based on features - BCD996T
Digital based on audio quality - PRO-96 / PRO-2096

I'm pretty partial to my Pro-2096... Although it is an older scanner, it's the Pro-96's base/mobile cousin. It's performance is the same as the Pro-96.

I used to have a BC780, but sold it. Didn't get to play with it much, so I can't vouch for it..
