I have a Pro - 2045 and 74 that I rarely use anymore. i would like to use them for something other than paper weights. Could any one out there give me any suggestions? I think the 2045 may have at least some potential the 74 is probably more limited. Thanks

Those two radios will do nicely for Airband monitoring! Just conventional AM mode.

How about the N65 Chambersburg airport:
CTAF/Unicom 122.800
Approach / Departure: 124.1

Check out airnav.com to see others near you like:

Hagerstown:
CTAF 120.300
Unicom: 122.950
Tower: 120.3
Emergency: 121.5 / 243.000

Gettysburgh:
Unicom 122.800
RCAG approach/departure 134.150 / 227.125

Throw in 123.450 air-air

But don't just listen at home. Many of these airports, especially general aviation are open to the public, although do not just wander onto the tarmac - obey the warning signs. They may even have a visitor center. Take your 74 with you, and grab a bite if they have any food and enjoy the ride for a few hours!

Set it up with the conventional (or standard analog trunking if the scanner's capable) and lock those out of the newer digital scanners. You'll get traffic on both systems without one blocking the other.

John,
I have thought about listing the 2042 on eBay I just haven't got around to it. If you are interested send me a PM. The scanner is in great condition but I had to print a manual from RS , never had the original one.

Sorry everyone , the base scanner is a PRO-2042 NOT a 2045 ..........................My fault completely..and it's even in my signature!

My home 20 eating pizza.
I have an old Pro 94 that I keep next to the computer in the weather alert mode or standby or whatever it's called for that generation of scanners. It'll sit there all lonely and silent collecting dust until nasty weather rolls in and it goes off for the alerts. This way I don't have to have the newer ones monitor the weather which is nice. Eventually I'll pick up a used Minitor IV or V to replace it and finally allow it to be retired in some form (most likely just move it to another room but keep it doing what it's doing now).

Donate to a senior citizen. I just gave my pro-43 (keypad doesn't work...again) to a friends 84 year old mother. She loves it!

A few years ago, Wal-mart had Midland's weather monitor on sale for around $20. I bought one and it works great. The alert can be heard all over the house, not too good when it goes off at 2 am for a watch. Either give your old scanner to a friend who can use it or sell it on e-Bay and get a dedicated weather monitor. Power hits really mess up my old PRO-26's programing but they don't bother my Midland. It would suck to not get an alert because of a power hit the day before your house blows away with you in it.
