I am looking for the frequencies for fire and police for Bethel, NC in Pitt County. Anyone have any information? I have all the frequencies from the radioreference database for Pitt programmed. This is what I get from a search on another web search & I found the following:

39.1000 ******** KCY 219 BETHEL PUBLIC WORKS DEPT. PITT PL
154.1450 ******** WPGV 655 BETHEL FIRE DEPARTMENT PITT PF
154.3550 ******** KJV 248 BETHEL FIRE DEPARTMENT PITT PF
155.1900 ******** KZC 505 BETHEL POLICE DEPARTMENT PITT PP
155.4150 ******** KZC 505 BETHEL POLICE DEPARTMENT PITT PP
155.9700 ******** KZC 505 BETHEL POLICE DEPARTMENT PITT PP
156.0300 ******** KZC 505 BETHEL POLICE DEPARTMENT PITT PP

I cannot seem to get anything on any of these frequencies though after several nights scanning. Any help would be appreciated.

Bethel Police and all police departments in Pitt County operate on 155.160, the Sheriffs frequency.

Well I know that Greenville PD operates on 453.3000, 453.6000 & 453.9000, so are you sure of that?

Also the database shows 155.160 as Pitt County EMS and the sheriff operating on several other frequencies. Is that information incorrect?

155.160 is EMS Dispatch. The Sheriffs Office operates on 158.850 but they have switched over to 800 MHZ. The main frequency is simulcast so you can still here it on VHF. Here is what I have for the Sheriff's Office maybe this will help.

Channel 1. 158.850 pl 103.5
Channel 2. 155.415 pl 103.5
Channel 3. 158.730 pl 103.5

Thanks for the reply. Have you actually heard anything on the 2nd and 3rd frequencies? I have all three already programmed and get lots of traffic on the 158.850 frequency but nothing on the other 2.

I fixed his quote to better explain that if the county sheriffs dept are operating on the 800mhz system, you will not hear them on the VHF channels unless they are rebroadcasting the traffic on a VHF channel, like what they are doing on the old CH1.

OK, that makes sense as far as the rebroadcasting goes.

When you refer to the 800Mhz are you referring to the Pitt County Memorial trunked listing in the database for Pitt Co.? If so I am pretty disappointed that I cannot seem to pick that up at my location. I have a PRO-433 and am only about 25 miles north of their tower but unfortunately when I add those posted frequencies to my system it does not seem to ever pick up any talkgroups. I am assuming that is because I cannot get a good signal but it may also be that I am doing something wrong. I am new to scanning and I can get lots of conventional signals but I can't get either the trunked frequencies in Tarboro, or the hospital's in G'ville.

If I tune to one of those posted frequencies manually in conventional mode, should I hear something other than static? I was under the impression that if I did that on certain frequencies it would give like a squealing sound which would indicate a control channel.

If you program all of the 800mhx frequencies for a motorola system, and you stop on each one and you don't hear anything, they you won't pick them up. One of those freqs is the control channel, it is always transmitting a data signal.

It would sound something like this...

From what I can see, Pitt county is on the state VIPER system and are all digital talkgroups. That would require a digital capable scanner like the RS 2096, 96, uniden 396, 996, and some others.

The VIPER page is here

That is exactly what I hear on the channels from Tarboro, but I never hear that from any of those frequencies in G'Ville.

I did see a thread that was a while back commenting that even though the database has it listed as a Type II, one poster mentioned that he got better results setting it as a Type I.

I did note that, but since I was getting some stuff from G'Ville, such as the PD and the rebroadcast SO, I was hoping that I could get Bethel too. Especially since I did not specifically see them in the Viper section and I had gotten some frequencies that they were supposed to be using according to the National Communications database.

Also, I hope I am not asking too many silly questions. As you can tell I am a newcomer and I am not trying to look too non-informed. I want to make sure what I am doing is a lack of signal or scanner capability and not that I am doing it incorrectly.

I believe that I understand trunking and the talkgroups and programming them, I just never seem to actually find any talkgroups when I perform the search.
