Okay what crazy stories have you gotten when out with the scanner? Just awhile ago my wife and I went out for lunch. We had the scanner sitting on the table when the waitress came by and saw it. She said "boy that is a big cell phone" My wife and I got a laugh out of it, we did by the way explain what it was.

I went into the Sprint store with my STX and told them I needed to update.

I would've let her live in bliss knowing that she just saw a huge cell phone.

Thats hardcore, you bring your scanner out to eat with you and listen to it right there on your table in the restaraunt? In Florida?

Cool, youve got a cool wife!

One day I went into a local "mart" store. There was some bad weather getting close, so I wanted to listen to the skywarn net. Instead of my wimpy 2m HT, I put my Saber on my belt and went in to do my business.

Some kid said to his mom, "look at his cellphone, it must be old" :D

Smarta$$ kids

P.S. Before someone says it, I know it was "wackerific" to carry a Saber into a "mart" store :p I really need to get a AS3 with wideband whip to be complete

My department's class B's consist of a polo shirt and uniform pants, and we're often mistaken for Wal-Mart employees when we go shopping with our portables on.

I also carried a portable radio with a DTMF keypad on it to a Cingular kiosk in the local shopping mall and asked if they had replacement antennas for it.

I get that all the time even in the downtown area do you work for public works there is a pipe broke down etc... I tell them I don't work for them. I wear a reflective vest when I ride my bicycle and people think I do construction and stuff that is or with out my radio....

I mostly listen to Fire Rescue, but I also listen to animal control. I will scan the city channels from time to time just to see what I can hear.

I often carry any of my radios with me if I'm doing errands or in a restaurant. Whether it's the Saber, the Jaguar (system model), or the M-PA (system model), I just don't care.

I don't call attention to my Jag (my scanner) when around cops but frankly I don't mind if
they notice it. Never had a problem. My use for it as a scanner is as legitimate as my
amateur use of the ASIII I used to have or the Saber 1 I have now. It's legal to scan and
the law doesn't say that it has to be a Uniden scanner. However, just to be on the safe
side, I monitor the fire/rescue groups when near cops, or just turn the volume down.
