I'm looking for a way to move about the kitchen and den with a headset so I won't need to have the scanner attached to my belt the whole time. More importantly I want to listen to what is going on and not bother my girlfriend who isn't a huge fan of hearing the scanner while we're in the kitchen prepping for dinner.

That said, does the shack carry some kind of bluetooth transmitter that would help with this? Or should I look into some kind of FM transmitter like folks use to listen to ipods in their cars?

Does anybody have any experience and recommendations ?

Thanks very much for that link - I've been using cheap broadcasters and have been occasionally frustrated. That looks to be the way to go

Let us know how it works for you. I keep my power setting at 7 ( it goes up to 200) and it is more than sufficient. I use either an MP 3 player with FM radio and ear buds or my home entertainment system to beam the signal to.

I agree on the FM transmitter as a more viable long range device but the price is pretty high for what Carolina wanted. The transmitter alone is close to $100 and then you still need a pair of FM receiver headphones which is certainly another $25-$30 bucks for anything worth a darn. Staying within 30-40 feet and ending up with both the bluetooth transmitter and a pair of high quality Altec-Lansing earphones for around $70 total still looks like a better deal to me for listening to basically low bandwidth audio and staying fairly close to the scanner. IMHO only.

Folks,

I have three FM transmitters running in my house. Two of them are the Blackboxmobile units. They are fantastic. I use the add-on antenna and get excellent coverage of my property. You can adjust the power output level. One of the transmits my scanner audio, the other transmits an internet audio stream. I also use a Hlly transmitter (stereo) to transmit shortwave.

A mild warning, using these is technically illegal. You are way way way over the FCC output power limit. Make sure you only use enough power to achieve the coverage you want. No harm..foul!

Stay away from the Ramsey unit. It is a toy and even when tweaked does not provide adequate coverage.
