Anyone ever attemp to set up a wireless bluetooth transmitter/earpiece to a scanner?? Think it would work? How far away are they supposed to transmit?

Headset (one of many available):

Headphones....these seem a little bulky:

Anyone else have any other ideas on how to make this work? Without having huge 1983 style headphones on?

that is a good question? I do not know if a scanner can pick it up. Looks like for Cell phones than again might have to be like 20 or 30 feet to the thing its not like miles of range its short....

Yeah, I was assuming only about 30 feet or so...I was hoping there was some kind of 1/8mm plug that would allow me to plug a bluetooth transmitter into the headphone jack on my scanner.

It may work. I'm not sure if they have different plugs for it. Let me know if you find one I can get one.

What about using a bluetooth headset with your computer, and then have the scanner audio go into the audio in on the sound card?

As long as the input is made for a regular audio port then it will work. The wireless transmitter that you use doesn't install any software on the device you plug it into. It receives audio and transmits it to the bluetooth earpiece that you use.

Awesome!!! Thats it! All I would need is that unit, a bluetooth headet, and an adapter that would make that 2.5mm plug fit my scanner's 1/8 plug. Thanks for finding that.

Love the pic of beetle by the way!

The Jabra A210 works very nicely with scanners - I use one with my BCD396. It won't work with a transmitter without a little plug modification, and I haven't experimented with PTT yet.

BTW, I get 20-30 feet with the Jabra headset if the A210 is in the clear.

Depending on the scanner and the frequencies you're listening to, the Bluetooth adapter can cause interference if you're using the stock antenna on a handheld. After all, it's a transmitter that's only a few inches from the antenna. Fortunately, the type of noise it creates isn't detected as AM or FM by the scanner, just noise, so it shouldn't break through the squelch in most cases.

Anyone run across any package deals on these?

I need a headset, and the transmitter.
Check ebay - search on Jabra a210. I see a few BT250-A210 packages at a great price (considering that the A210 usually sells for around $60).
