Im having antenna issues and come to find out..it wasnt the antennas at all. Seems like the center pin on all my connectors (including the stock telescoping antenna) arent making contact with the center pin. This is happening on a 1 1/2 year old BCD996T. I have to push up or down on anything connected to the scanner till it makes contact...but will eventually move and i dont hear anything till i fiddle with it again. Any ideas???

If you look at the radio BNC, you should see some very small fingers in the center contact.

If you take a very small screwdriver or other small impliment, you can CAREFULLY bend those tabs inward toward the center of the hole. With that, these tabs will make a contact with the center pin on the antenna itself. You can also use some contact cleaner and clean it up.

It is common (expecially if you remove and replace the antennas often) for the tabs to bend out of the way.
