Breaking: 3 bodies found in Texas; standoff under way
The Dallas Morning News
ARLINGTON, Texas — A man believed to have fatally shot his wife and her two children were holding police at bay in Arlington Friday afternoon.
Police sealed off an area surrounding a residence in the 3300 block of Carter Drive and shotgun-wielding officers could be seen crouched behind squad cars.
Fort Worth police Lt. Doug Draper said the incident began this afternoon after a man dropped off his 3-year-old daughter at Mayfield Road Baptist Church in Arlington. The girl was covered in blood but not injured. The man then told people at the church he had committed a crime in Fort Worth, and the police were notified.
When police arrived at the Fort Worth home in the 2100 block of Mims Street, they found the bodies of a woman, her 13-year-old daughter and her 10-year-old son. Lt. Draper said the man had been married to the woman. Fort Worth police declined to release the victims' names, saying next of kin had not been notified.
Fort Worth police said they had been called to the home twice in the past month, once in September by the man who said he feared the children were home alone and a second time on Oct. 5 by his wife who said the man was ringing the doorbell and knocking on the door.
Arlington police released few details about the standoff on Friday.
Lynn Hale Elementary, about two blocks away, has been in lockdown and people were not allowed to leave or enter the building, said Veronica Sopher, an Arlington ISD spokeswoman. She said students have been moved to the back of the building and are safe.
School release is at 3:20 p.m. Children will only be released to parents present at the school, Ms. Sopher said. Pickup of students will take place at the back of the building.
