I have a pro-97 and my mom is jealous so I bought her a used pro-95 off ebay (MISTAKE) the dill weed sent me a defective radio... The problem is , near as I can tell, a short in the volume knob. I've posted a video on youtube so you can see the problem.

What I need to know from all you radio nerds ( meant with love) is whether or not it is even senceable to repair this thing... ( how much $ would RS Repair Depot Charge) or should I fight to get a refund...?

Now that is a good way to show a problem. It sounds like there is a loose solder joint but just to make sure, plug a speaker or headphones into it and see if they work.

Nice video. Clearly shows your dilema. In my opinion, I agree that there is a loose solder. I wouldn't go through the hassle with the person who sold the radio to you. I'm sure he knew the volume had issues. Plus, you will be stuck with paying shipping twice, and may or may not get your cash back. I had a siliar problem on my old pro 43. I just took the back off, and CAREFULLY soldered the connection.

If you want detailed instructions on what i did to fix the problem, I could email you some photos of where I soldered the connection. Again, my scanner was the pro 43, not the same as yours, but I would guess they are very similar.

Good Luck
