btt,
Your receivers are fascinating and I'm ready to pull the trigger on the P25RX-II because of everything I have been reading here on RadioRef and watching on YT.
I think the P25RX-II would be a sweet addition to my SDRplay Duo. Sorry, but I do have one morbid question. If you were to be struck by lightning would that mean the end of the line for your company and or support for this these receivers ?
Sorry again, had to ask.

If that is a really a deciding factor in your purchase of the p25rx-II it probably would not be a good radio choice for you.

I'll just add, as I knock on the closet piece of wood furniture, if the unfortunate were to happen this product is still better than most others as it is right now. The continuous work to improve it is a bonus that you don't always get with other products.

Even IF Todd were to meet his demise, The product as built today, is loads further ahead of ANY receiver available. I would imagine that someone would pick it up and keep it going..

Its also worth mentioning that while production continued, even a big company like Uniden suffered from the loss of UPMan on the support side of the business.

Thanks for the comments guys. It means a lot. The question is fair. If I were to get hit by a bus or struck by lightning, you would probably have to live with the firmware already released. There are lots of versions to choose from! There is another case. The one where I'm still around, but sales dies off and I need to move on in order to pay the bills. This is a real possibility. I've addressed this in the past. In this case, I will open-source everything. I'm certain clones would appear after the electronic parts industry recovers (assuming it will).

That is a conundrum for some people, and as FreqNout points out, it's probably not the best choice for you. I would also not recommend it as someone's first "scanning device" (at least for most folks)---- it's probably good to have a little prior experience with "regular" scanners first to have some idea of what is and is not going to be scannable in your area. That particular situation, that this is a one-man company, is ironically its weakness and its strength. But leans more to the "strength side" in the BTT only has to support two products, the original P25RX and the followup model II. And that because he created the product, the level of support you can get is incomparable.

I would also venture to guess, as others have mentioned, that in the absence of BTT, there would still be continued support from the many other enthusiastic users of the product who frequent these forums.

I had a few scanners in the past but am currently using a SDRplay duo with DSD plus fastlane software. I decode my local P25 traffic with out much trouble. Just looking for a new gadget to add to my toy chest along with the play and HackRF one.

With the current stable version of firmware, it can be as easy as entering a P25 control channel frequency and pressing write config. At that point, you will be listening to all unencrypted P1 and P2 traffic. After that, you will probably want to set up the talk groups. As a subscriber to RR, you can download the DSD formatted talk group files and use the "import csv" function to import them to the P25RX. That is described in the the "tips and tricks" section here: https://bluetailtechnologies.com/pages/p25rx-tips-and-tricks

Importing DSD Talk Group Files Available To radioreference.com Subscribers:
From the front-page on radioreference.com, go to Databases->Frequency Database, and select your state->county. At the bottom of the county page, there is a list of systems. Click on your system. On the system page, select the "Downloads And Reports" tab. Select: "Download DSD Formatted Talkgroup Data File for Trunked System: xxxxx County"

1) Download the DSD Talk Group file from RR and save it to the "Documents/p25rx" folder on WIndows or ~/p25rx/ on Linux.
2) Rename the file to have a '.dsd' file extension.
3) From the Talk Group Editor tab in BTConfig press the "Import CSV" button and select the .dsd file that you downloaded and renamed.

Your P25RX flash memory now contains a list of talk groups for your system!

The files are actually text, csv formatted files. You could append multiple files before the import if you have multiple systems. If you edit these files directly, you must leave the first line of the file intact with the "DSDPlus.groups" string.

In the realm of the scanner enthusiast, it's always nice to get a new "toy" to play with; a new "gadget" to fiddle with. As has often been said, "the only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys".
