Wondering if anyone in or around Buchanan county could verify and list the freqs being used on 3 of the STARS sites listed in the DB. Specifically Honaker and Oakwood.

2 (2)013 (D)HonakerBuchanan152.6825c152.7125c161.875162.000
2 (2)017 (11)OakwoodBuchanan152.8175c161.800c
2 (2)027 (1B)Elkin's BranchBuchanan161.900c161.9375c161.950c

Helping someone out in two other threads who is is scanning Honaker and Oakwood simultaneously. He posted a screenshot showing a voice freq of 152.72750 which did not yield any FCC search results. Maybe a blanket license.

Since 161.875 is a Honaker voice freq, 152.72750 should be a voice freq on Oakwood or SDRTrunk is displaying the wrong freq. Any help in verifying the site freqs would be appreciated.

There was talk that all Buchanan TG's would be strapped encryption. The locality I work for will be joining STARS shortly and as part of the agreement to join the system, all TG's regardless of agency must utilize strapped encryption.

Sorry, I just don't see the state strapping down its entire statewide system because of an agreement between a locality. Maybe the locality will be completely strapped.

They’re not mandating it because a locality is joining. This encryption has been in the works for a few years now. It’s a State Police owned radio system. All state agencies are on STARS with a few localities. If State Police are mandating it…… kinda no arguing with them on it. It doesn’t affect the end user

As trainman111 said, they are strapping everything. It might be completed this year, if not definitely next. Most agencies in VA have Comlinc for patching, allowing them to communicate with STARS. Multiple agencies can use Comlinc via patching while remaining encrypted.

wow that really sucks right now the county police is all encrypted the only thing i'm getting is the state police i guess my hobby will die pretty soon which will suck so bad as this part of the radio hobby is what i'm into the most not so much the ham stuff. it should be illegal for them to do that because the public has a right to know what is going on in their community next they will start denying access to body cam footage.
