I'm fixin to spend the weekend at buggs island, and was wondering if anybody knew what the local skywarn freq. was for that area (I guess Mecklenburg County). I was also wondering if anybody had any info on who the local law enforcement is for that lake (i.e. Department of Conservation and Recreation, Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, or Department of Forestry). It's to my knowledge that most of these agencies are on STARS which will impossible to monitor with my Pro-97 & 95. I guess my question is; are they on STARS in that area, or is it all over the state?

The Central NC Skywarn (146.880 repeater in Raleigh area) is the closest probably. 145.470 located just west of South Hill is not a Skywarn freq and is mostly quiet, even in times of activity, and Richmond (145.430, I think) would be the closest in VA. The database should give you the most complete freq info for Halifax and Mecklenburg in VA and Granville, Vance, and Warren in NC. Add the ACOE to your list, as they run the lake, so to speak. I believe the US and state freqs are listed there, too. The STARS system isn't up and running as yet except in limited areas, and my last trip to the home county of Mecklenburg a coupla weeks back revealed things remain as usual there.

Thank you so much for your help. By the way, where do I get freqs for the ACOE in that area? I looked through the database and couldn't find anything.

The law enforcement end of the ACOE uses a VHF/UHF crossband repeater that crossbands Mecklenburg Sheriff's main UHF channel to 169.575, but if there's a PL, I don't know what it might be. Anyway, it's not really necessary and you can hear the traffic on the UHF side.
